science behind the art

The man behind the science and the art, Kelsey Brookes

Kelsey Brookes who you may be interested to know is a man and used to be a microbiologist scientist and after spending years of his life tracking viruses for U.S government, now works as a full-time fine artist in California. His work is out-of-this-world amazing and unlike anything I've ever seen before, skeletons, snakes, exotic animals, sex and Hindu and Buddhist deities are prevalent in his work which is often done with pink, purple and blue chalks, water-colours and spray-paints. I strongly advice you to check out some more of his work online here

topshop australia x russh magazine

RUSSH Magazine's deputy editor Clare Alstin and editor-in-chief Jess Blanch
Jess shot by Candice Lake

Last night I had the privilege of being invited by Topshop Australia for an event they were hosting at their Melbourne store featuring trend talks by the editor-in-chief of my favourite magazine, RUSSH, Jess Blanch and her take on this season's fashions was as refreshing as the raspberry and cucumber cocktails which were being served to the guests all night long. Jess reflected on her favourite shows from homegrown MBFWA and from the fall/winter shows in Paris, Milan, New York and London and I was lucky enough to be able to chat to her one-on-one before the end of the night.

Wearing a blazer, basic-tee, boyfriend jeans and her signature chunky frames Jess was the embodiment of her magazine and it's tagline 'Australian at heart, international in mindset.'
After having a chat to Jess we were able to browse the store and check out exclusive pieces from the new seasons' range which haven't yet hit the shop-floor.

All in all it was a great night and I thank Topshop Australia and RUSSH for having me there!

Thanks for the goodies!

models do it better

I was lucky enough to snap some models - including Jess Gold who is one of my favourite Aussie models right now - after the Independent Runway show which showcased labels such as Ksubi, Something Else, Jolet, Lui Hon and Extinct for L'oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival.
Throughout the week and off the runway, I also saw Rachel Rutt, Alice Burdeau, Montana Cox, Emily Jean, Louise Van Vorst and Eliza Humble who were all nice in person too (the ones I did speak to.)

Yesterday I went to the Camberwell market with my friends Jemimah and Julia. Even though it was a bit cold we  managed to find some pretty cool stuff.

Jemimah's cool finds - a woven blue and tan leather dress, fishnet top and Zara snakeskin skirt
with Julia's new cactus and featuring Jemimah's leopard shoes from Zomp

toasted

On Saturday Jemimah and I headed into the city to Myer to see Rumi Neely of fashiontoast.com fame in her first ever public Australian appearance. Rumi is in Australia to promote and shoot for the new Myer Miss Shop blogger project in which 14 Australian fashion bloggers and Rumi (who's from LA) were asked to design items for the new Miss Shop range. Rumi was super nice and even complimented me on my jumper which she called a 'sweater' which was really cute.

just shoot me

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to go to a live shoot for Fashion Journal's next issue with my friend Haylee. It was at Penthouse Mouse which in Melbourne, is a huge venue for L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Week to show up-and-coming Aussie designers. We had the luxury of walking around looking at these new and awesome pieces by these designers and of course watching the shoot in process with a Sapporo beer (or three!) in hand. The shoot was photographed by Jesse O'Brien a young photographer whose work is well-known and respected all throughout Australia, it was fun to see a few friends there as well.
Here are some of the photos.
